Re: Fedora 9 is out I dunno, it's weird. Either you fall in love with a distro and then chase down the hardware needed to stay in love, or you have hardware you like and need to go wife shopping, er...I mean distro shopping looking for what works.
I'll sit on Fedora 8 a while longer.
I did do one thing that I can't quite get working. OpenSSH v5 has chroot capability in it now. So I grabbed the Fedora 9 SRPM and built it all on Fedora 8. All built fine, except I can't seem to get the chroot thingie working. It may be SE Linux in the way though and not an OpenSSH problem.
I've been using ssh.com's freeware SSH for many years because it has had that chroot in it all along, unlike OpenSSH that has always had to have been hacked for it.
I'm looking for anyone on Fedora 9 that has that working, or of course anyone who backported it to Fedora 8 like I did.
I've been googling, but it's apparently too early yet.
Edit: It's SE Linux preventing file writes. Some sort of voodoo like policy editor can be used to fix this, but ya' gotta have a PhD to understand it. |

If the pain associated with a disappointing six CD set isn't enough for you, try the 'Everything' 24 CD release. |

Ugly but allowed me to get a working nvidia driver back. Seems to be somewhat counter productive to upgrade and then have to do a parital downgrade but considering I was running I was a few versions behind to begin with I still have newer code than I started with. |

Tried it.. got kinda stuck in the rpm -e part, since it wasn't doing the whole line. But overall went good. |

This distribution model needs to die. The only time I ever see using this is when I have a sudden need to reinstall Fedora in the middle of the arctic wilderness; and I'm sure that I'll have forgotten to bring all 24 CDs. Maybe I could put them all on one blu-ray disc?
From my experience, installing a linux distro without high speed access is a corner case, certainly not something that needs to be the focus of the installation infrastructure.
How has Fedora not woken up and smelled the "50 MB netinst image" model? |

How has Fedora not woken up and smelled the "50 MB netinst image" model? Well this wasn't their distribution model, but it's back by demand. For Fedora 8 there was only single disc Live CDs that were installable, and single install only DVDs, plus net install. There was such an outcry for full CD sets, they brought them back for Fedora 9. Why people think they need every package on CDs is beyond me. -- Verizon FiOS 15/15 subscriber since 11/26/07 | Mac owner since 1990 | FreeBSD user since 2005 | Fedora user since 2006 | "Anyone who is unwilling to learn is entitled to absolutely nothing." - graysonf | EDIT: I seldom post without an edit. |

The following shows how to load them:

These seem to load ok, but I have not done any extensive testing so your mileage may vary. |

wssddc join:2001-08-21 Bedford, MA | There was a recent Fedora 8 kernel update with a comment, if I remember correctly, that it was syncing with Fedora 9. This kernel needs the new Nvidia drivers (the older ones won't compile). |
