[modem/router] Modem noise on phone line - but cannot find the s

Ok, I know that we need filters on every line. BTDT. I've taken every phone line out of the loop and tested individually. I've tried different filters on each line. Here's what is going on.

I am very obviously hearing the modem static on the voice line no matter. I turn the modem off and voila, the line is clear again. I actually can hear it "training" when it first connects. The problem seems to be intermittent. Yesterday, I made and received calls and the line appeared clear. Today, its horrendous.

We only have 4 jacks in our entire house. one is not in use what so ever. The other 3 have been pulled out and tested individually using different filters.

So, what next? Is it possible that the Modem itself could be bad and causing this? It's obviously related to the DSL since when the modem is turned off, the line is crystal. Our DSL speed is crappy today despite being fine yesterday.

Here's another long shot...we have a couple wireless phones that work off the "mother phone". IOW, they don't plug into any phone jacks. Could one of those cause this?

I'm running out of answers. Thanks to ANYONE who has a suggestion!

Re: [modem/router] Modem noise on phone line - but cannot find t

The cordless phones, as long as the main unit is filtered and not right beside the modem, shouldn't affect the circuit in that way - they may interfere with the wireless signal but that's not your issue.
There are several possible causes of that noise on the line- yes the modem is definitely one of them. If you don't have another modem to try, you should probably call in to tech support and tell them your situation and everything you've tried so far.

Thanks! We have 2 other phone lines coming into the home. I posted a message to see if we can get Verizon to change the DSL to another line. I realized the line its on now, doesn't even have a Network Interface Device - its in the basement and connected by wires to bolts! OY! The other two lines are new since we moved here a few years ago and are not as heavily used. So here's to hoping they will honor my request.

I was recently helping a friend with his wiring - and found an old line like that bolted to a carbon block. We followed that line through the wall and - outside it went to the NID !
Sad but true, and worth double checking.
A new line in from the NID did fix it by the way.
