[XP] PC to PC Networking over Cat 5

Is it possible to access a program running on one pc from another pc though a cat 5 connection, and actually run that program even though the 2nd computer does not have that program installed. I have read where you can purchase remote desktop software that operates over the internet but what I am looking for is over my network, not the internet. If it would take some program, what would be a good one to use?

only if the program you are running has client-server capability, but you would still need to install the client side of the software on the computer that doesnt have the full install on it. Because the program might make calls to .dlls and registry entries that might not exist on the local computer.

What program are you referring to?

Look at UltraVNC.

If you are looking into something what the above person has stated.. XP Pro has RDP already installed, or just go the VNC route.. It isnt internet based more like IP based. So it can be used across the internet or local network.
