Our rain praying governor did something right today

Governor Perdue has signed a law today that will allow GA residents to freeze your credit for only $3 per bureau which will help nearly stop all threats from identity theft. You will be able to thaw it for $3 electronically within 15 minutes if you need to purchase a car, etc.

More details here:

Currently you can do it for $10 per bureau, unless you have been a victim of identify theft or are elderly.

That is good news. Even with the $3 charge, the credit bureaus still make a profit on the freezes.

But they are losing money because with a freeze they are not permitted to sell your information for promotional purposes.

That is why they have fought this battle, which they have now lost. My point was that it costs them very little to put a freeze on your account.

Yea, well they make $3 when you freeze it, $3 when you unfreeze it to make a purchase, then $3 when you freeze it back again multiplied by millions of customers. I'd say this isn't really a loss for them.
