The TiVo s3 you have to use 2 cards ether s-cards or m-cards The TiVo hd you can use 1 m-card or 2 s-cards.
As by fcc the cable company can charge a small fee for the cards up to $2.50 each I believe

FiOS charges me $3 for each cable card I have. So I pay them $24 a month for 8 cable cards.
Comcast charges me zero for the two cable cards I have with them.
