| SBS 2003 Exchange host peoples Pop3 email?
A friend of mine is setting up a Windows SBS 2003 R2 server and has a website and email account with a hosting company like 1and1.com and wants to know if he uses Exchange on the new SBS server so that everyone can share calendar items etc, if he can also use POP3 on the server? If so, how would you setup Exchange to except a POP3 email account(s)? |

| Unless the Ham means to ask whether Exchange itself can provide POP3 access to Exchange mailboxes? Because of course it certainly can, WITHOUT the, shall we say, quirky POP3 connector cited above.
You can also consider simply forwarding existing hosted e-mail (on an account by account basis) on to a similar mailbox on the Exchange server, and having users pick up their mail AND calendaring in a single place (the Exchange box).
Edit: To further clarify, if the user has his or her own domain, there's little reason they couldn't point all mail records to the new server, bypassing the hosted accounts completely...

I don't need the Exchange server to provide Pop3. I just wanted to know if it was possible to just forward the POP3 email to the exchange server.

| The only draw back to pulling email from a 3rd party into your Exchange environment is that the shortest interval is like 10 or 15 minutes.
I would suggest that if they own the domain name, they point their MX record to their server and setup secure POP3 or IMAP access.

The POP3 connector that comes with SBS will only retrieve mail every 15 minutes. If you need something that does it more often, you'll need a 3rd party POP3 connector of which there are many and most offer additional features. (SSL, etc.) |
