Why did AT&T send me a Motorola 2210 modem?

I received my AT&T DSL package today. After half an hour trying to set it up and not knowing why I couldn't get it working AT&T tells me the lines outside are not done yet and it won't be ready to go until the 16th.
I received the Motorola 2210 modem, man it's a dinky little thing! I checked to see some info on the modem and on AT&T's site it says the following on the 2210 page:
Please do not purchase if you are living in Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, or South Carolina. For BellSouth DSL Customers wishing to purchase a DSL Modem, please call 1-800-321-ADSL.

I live in Florida, why send me a modem that it specifically says not to buy in Florida. How is this modem? I'll be using my Apple Airport Extreme wireless router to run our 4 computers wirelessly. Should I request something else?

One of the reasons that the ATT store tells BellSouth area customers not to order DSL modems from that site is because the rest of AT&T uses a VCI/VPI setting of 0/35, and the modems ordered from that site use those values by default. The modem that you received will have the default setting of 8/35 which is used in the BellSouth area.

It's a great modem that is exactly what you need. Set it to bridged mode and connect it to your Airport.

Not to hijack this thread, but what is the advantage of setting the 2210 to bridged mode? I use this modem with a Belkin N router. I see several suggestions to use bridge mode in the modem and setup the router for PPPoE, but haven't read why this is recommended.
Thanks

No wonder I couldn't get things to work. The diagram shown is exactly what I had going. Doh!

yanks, I had the same reaction when I got my 2210, but I finally decided to try it and it is probably the best modem I have ever used. And I have used a bunch. It is fast and stable.

PS - I don't bridge mine, either. I just use a cheap, simple gigabit ethernet switch. Connected to the switch are two wired PC's, an 802.11a wireless access point, and one of those power line ethernet thingies that plugs into a wall socket. No configuration was necessary and everything works, perfectly. The modem is the router.
