If I wanted to scale an image (that has ample resolution) to fit as near to A4 size, what dimensions should it be e.g 800x600 pixels ?????? Thanks ... It depends on the DPI encoded in the image. But even then, many programs ignore it.
300 DPI on A4 is about 2500x3500 pixels 1200 DPI is about 10,000x14,000
Most image files have a way to encode the DPI in the file. Very few programs allow you to see or even change it.
Ideally you would leave the image in its native resolution and set the DPI so it fills an A4 page. FOr example if the image is 1024x768 you would set the DPI to about 96DPI:
1024/96 = 10.66" 768/96 = 8"
96 DPI is also a common screen DPI. -- Scott Henion
