If so, an SLA is just marketing and promises. Given some of the prior comments, the marketing appears to be working! |

Execs and beancounters loose it when they aren't promised 99.999% and they think that the National Guard will be called to restore service. In reality, all SLAs do guarentee you credits when you call. Ultimately the IT people will nonchalantly order service from an alternative provider through alternative last mile system to get a real SLA (diverse fiber routes/entries into building, or wireless or space optical or satellite backup), or just build duplicate off site facilities with the fallover in corporate's hands. If the 2nd provider or the 2nd site goes down, you have bigger issues on hand, most likely a natural disaster or civil unrest or internet worm that does a buffer overflow and firmware rewrite on all Cisco and Juniper routers, or the sheriff came to seize all equipment for bankruptcy liquidation  .

Its funny to look at fools paying $400 a month for DSL service just because of a guarantee of service credits. Remember all T1 lines are basically SDSL or HDSL lines, and price increases if your loop is too long. |
