Re: Which is more stable and reliable UNIX OS?

Both are just as stable.

The reason Linux is talked about more often is cost (free). Most Unix systems are expensive commercial products. In addition to BSD variants, Solaris has entered the free Unix arena.

More people run Ubuntu, which is a variant of Debian, not the other way around as you stated, because it is easy to install and maintain. You do not have to be a Linux guru to use it. It does not mean it is more secure.

So is Solaris based on BSD or System-V?

SysV. SunOS was BSD-based.

Solaris is based is based on SunOS, which is based on System-V. Early versions of SunOS were based on BSD, SunOS 4 was the first System-V

Solaris can call itself UNIX.

Check these:
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix-like

The irony of common sense, it is not that common
I cannot deny anything I did not say

SunOS 4 was the last BSD based SunOS. I know since I used SunOS 4.1.4 up until Y2K.

SunOS 5 was the first System-V SunOS.
