If your Operating System is XP you could try the .exe file association in the following link:

thank you, but that didnt do it,
managed to run regedit, and i think the problem is here

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe

Application key is now set to firefox.exe

but i dont know what the default was explorer.exe just starts showing up a dialog "do you want to open (application name)" without running it....

I don't have that key at all, may export that key and then delete it and C.

I used to be indecisive, now I am not sure.

Also, can you identify your Operating System please - settings may be different for different Operating Systems.

The following MS KB article is for Windows Vista:

oh, sorry, its win XP

ok i deleted that key, but it still opens up RUN AS dialog... so now the problem is in the main exe association i guess

There is also the free Symantec utility to repair the EXE file association in a comprehensive way. It uses an INF file approach:

the rest of applications still are RUN AS, asking for permission,

RUN AS

fixed:

in

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open
