| reply to Vistaluvr2 It increases the total number of TCP half-open connections per second allowed from 10 to 50 (or any other limit you choose). If you're using a p2p program, and keep getting EventID 4226 entries, it will supposedly correct that.
Unknown problems? What kind of unknown problems? And it was never intended as a speed increasing fix, either. I've never seen any on either XP SP2 or SP3, though on Vista it may be a different story. -- "The trouble with computers, of course, is that they are very sophisticated idiots." - Doctor Who (from Robot)

I don't see Vista on that list, do you? So the O.P. wants to blame the utility for something he himself mistakenly and erroneously installed. Go figure. |

| reply to AB Sorry guys, I just assumed everyone know about this patch. I keep seeing people recommending this patch because for one they thinks it speeds up your connection or P2P software or whatever. If you don't know what it is, either ignore this thread or google for it.

I only said that because I am not having any kinds of problem with bittorrent or Limewire WITHOUT the silly patch. Good for you for wasting your time on installing a non official tcpip.sys file. I have run into machines with this patch installed with either certain softwares didn't like the modified tcpip.sys or it's missing from the system for GOOD by some AV or something. Replaced the file, all is good.

LOLOLOL U SO FUNNY!!! No, I have heard of this patch for at least 4 years (since SP2 release) and never install or recommend this patch or any other modified files outside of MS. It does nothing but slow down INCOMPLETE half open connections.
There is special instruction on how to install this patch on Vista floating around the 'Net. Search for it in google if you want |

No, I have heard of this patch for at least 4 years (since SP2 release) and never install or recommend this patch or any other modified files outside of MS. It does nothing but slow down INCOMPLETE half open connections. Sounds to me like the issue is with the website or sites-- on XP, that is.
Sometimes sites don't want folks there just helping themselves to their bandwidth, and will cut off some connections. And of course without using the EvID4226Patch, that point is moot.
There is special instruction on how to install this patch on Vista floating around the 'Net. Search for it in google if you want No thanks. I could google it for a week, and Vista still wouldn't on the list of supported systems at the dev's site. |

I am sure ya can do the same with any os, just find what key and where it is in registry. |

| reply to Vistaluvr2 I used this patch for xp sp2. Since sp3 came out I haven't seen any errors in my event viewer saying my limit of concurrent tcpip connections have been reached! So maybe MS adjusted the limit in TCPIP.SYS... -- Kill With The Best... Or Die Like The Rest... Critical Damage Incorporated...Visit Us Here! |

| It is still set to 10. I checked with my XP SP3 virtual machine.
BTW don't be confused between the 10 outgoing incomplete half-open connections and 10 incoming TCP connections. They are two different thing. Increasing either will not increase your bandwidth or download or faster - whatever. |

| reply to ironwalker I just checked out the xp-antispy thing you're talking about. It does the same exact thing as the EvID4226Patch223d does. Nothing about registry changing. Their description is inaccurate too!
said by xp-antispy :
The connection limit wasn't established by Microsoft without a reason. It should prevent rapid spreading of viruses and worms if a computer gets infected. That's why they limited it to 10 connections at a time... Some applications, like, for example, filesharing tools, can't unfold their capacity when the maximum connection limit is too low. Please don't raise the connection limit if you don't really need it. Look into the event viewer (start->run 'Eventvwr.msc'->system). When you see entries with the event ID 4226, the system is telling you that the connection limit has been reached. So I do not recommend this software either. |
