| Port 25 Blockage?
I just had a problem with a customer who has Qwest DSL and all of a sudden experienced blockage of her outbound email. She uses a third-party for email and website and we had to chage the port on which she was accessing the SMTP server. We changed her to a different port in collaboration with the hosting company and all is well now. Anybody have any thoughts or similar experiences. -- My perception is REALITY |

| reply to WiseOldNerd I am azsilvertips associate and the issues unfolded when I was called to a customer site because they reported that they could receive mail but not send mail through the mail server provided by the web site they employ. I checked several of their machines and the situation was the same for all. They are using MS Outlook 2003 and the settings have been in place for months. I then called web site customer support rep and he watched the server and could see the download connect but the send never got to the server.
He then checked his own Outlook mail and had the same result. We then began to suspect port 25 blocking and set the SMTP port to 465 and encryption to Auto. This resolved the problem as mail flow began immediately. His conclusion was that Qwest must have been blocking port 25 in this case.
I personally use Qwest because they dont block port 25, but this incident seemed to suggest at least in this case a block was present. |

| This is what he said. Given the lack of any other confirming replies I would say you are correct. If the problem was at his end one would think he would have been aware of one, but I guess not. The business of the company providing my customer’s mail service is primarily that of serving up web pages and whatever was going on was probably as you suggest an anomaly at their end.
I appreciate everyone’s response and I guess for now we can conclude Qwest has not changed its policy on port blocking. |
