Upload Limited by Verizon FIOS ROUTER?! HELP!!

Alright recently I updated to verizon fios plan 15/15 from 15/2. In my house there are currently 3 computers on the network, a main computer downstairs on the lower floor (that is connected to the router) and 2 computers upstairs. On all 3 computers the download speed is roughly the same. All within 15000 kb/per sec, however, only the computer on the lower floor right next to the router obtains upload speeds of near 15000 kb/per sec. The two computers upstairs only output roughly 8300 kb/per sec. Does anyone else have this problem or know how i can go about fixing it?

It's really hard to provide specific help to such vague details. If you've got W2K or XP computers, have you visited the Verizon Optimizer page? »www.verizon.net/optimizesettings/

Otherwise, please let us know what OS, and if they're wired or wireless connection for starters. The more information you provide, the more likely you are to get useful information in return

Sorry for the vaugeness,

I am currently running Windows Vista and the connection is wired for all computers. I have not tried the Verizon Optimizer yet.

One thing I should add is The two computers who are getting the Slow Speeds have different OS. One has Vista and the other has XP so I don't believe it to be a specific Vista problem...

I am completely loss as to what to do... And calling Verizon tech support is useless.. -.-

For the XP system, did you run the optimizer? For the Vista system, did you read the KB article? There's a hot fix available from Microsoft.

Well I updated the Vista comp with the "hot fix" restarted and sadly there is no improvement.

What speed/duplex setup on the computers? Auto, 100Mb/Full, etc.

I have had wireless computers that would get 1/10th the speed as the wired computer, although my newest laptop gets the same speed. It could be the wireless cards.

He said all connections are wired.

He stated that all were wired so I would be looking at NIC.

Oh I missed that, sorry. I think I assumed they were in different rooms, and wireless like mine are.

Have you swapped ports on one of the slow ones and the fast one yet on the router?

How long is the run of cable from downstairs to upstairs? Could you be getting any electrical interference(cable run to close to electrical lines)?

I had only a minor improvement from that hotfix. However, when I installed Vista SP1 the up and down speeds improved to match my (verizon optimized) XP systems.

If you haven't installed SP1 you may want to try it.

I am using the Verizon router and all of my machines (hard wired) get about the same speeds including two with a cable run of approx 100 cable feet.

Are your cables "home runs" from the router to the PC? (ie, separate wires all going directly from router to the PC NIC port?)

what kes601 said sounds more logical.

I'm curious to know as well.

my cables only 4 feet and my upload only goes to 10 to 8 mb mostly 8 because the actiontec only support s 10. VZ techs dont disagree when you tell, them so anybody running 15/15 through the actiontec post some pictures of you getting your 15/15 if it wasnt true.

I'm not doubting the speeds you are seeing, but that is NOT because of the Actiontec. You have posted that the Actiontec is limited to 10mbps before, and it is just not true.

The Actiontec has a 500Mhz processor, which is faster than many routers on the market.

smallnetbuilder.com rates the Actiontec as capable of:
126 Mbps total simultaneous throughput
92 Mbps for LAN-to-WAN (upload) throughput
