| Telus is dinging me too much.....
I want to keep my phone unpublished so i don't get phone calls from telemarketers and junkmail in my PO box.
I phoned telus and told them I asked twice before to not put my # in the phone book.
Now after I ask to do this, I get extra charges for this.
That's it, I'm not going to deal with a nickel and dime game, I phoned Shaw and they said that they would un-list, un-publish my phone for free, plus call display for free.
But, I see my ADSL contract is not done till 2009. If I switch to Shaw phone, will the ADSL still work?
Also Shaw said the phone would go though the lines, not the cable. Then I find out the phone does come though the cable, then the router plugs into the phone jack?
I want to keep the # I pay for private, why should i pay more for this?
I'm sick of getting burned while companies make money twice from my hardship. -- ASUS A8V 2.0-Deluxe 1018beta 2 AMD FX-60 OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum Edition 2GB 2-3-2-9-1T@400DDR Bank Interleaving Enabled Sapphire ATI HD3850 512GDDR3 AGP HT Omeaga Claro Windows Vista Ultimate non-SP1 ADSL 6Mbps APC Back UPS 900VA |

| paying for a non-pub service is not new. It's been around for many, many years. The company takes a certain level of responsibility to ensure that your number is not published online, in the phonebook or in 411. Let's say that you're in hiding from someone, with a restraining order, and your number gets put into the phonebook. Due to that you have to relocate etc. Telus may be held responsible for those expenses (it's apparently happened before). -- I may work for, but do not necessarily represent the views and beliefs of TELUS Communications. |

It will require a Shaw Technician and/or Telus Technician to do some rewiring. |

| reply to Vista RTM said by Vista RTM :I want to keep my phone unpublished so i don't get phone calls from telemarketers and junkmail in my PO box. I would strongly suggest registering your contact information in the cdma's website: www.the-cma.org. They will direct their members to remove your contact information from direct marketing lists. It's not a complete fix, but it will significantly reduce your telemarketing and junkmail.
Once your number and address are out there, going unlisted will not stop junkmail or calls. Going nonpub is almost pointless without a number change.
In terms of charges: nonpublished has always been crtc regulated for ilecs as an extra charge for the reasons that JammerMan79 describes: the service provider is accepting extra responsibility for your account's security above and beyond just best-effort removing your listing from the book. The main reason residential customers get non-published numbers is that they are concerned about some abusive or even violent person. TELUS takes this very seriously. You'll have to decide if you need this enhanced security, and how motivated Shaw is to follow through if they're doing it for free.
Regarding adsl: you can go adsl-no-local. The Shaw people will have to do a site visit because they rip your outlets off of the phone network and connect it to their cable network. They will have to remember to leave one jack connected to the TELUS phone network, and that's the one you will have adsl connected to. -- public statements by this poster represent himself, and do not represent telus |

| reply to Vista RTM Even with an unlisted number you will still get telemarketers calling from companies that you already have a relationship with. Credit card companies, banks and phone companies market to their existing clients all the time. Also many "contests" are just ways for companies to gather your information and sell it so always read the fine print before entering a contest. |

| reply to Vista RTM It looks like you want to keep your number.
Here's my suggestion: - Remove being unlisted. Saves you from paying the monthly charge. - Request directory name to be somebody else (i.e. J Fitzpatrick) and not list your address - Call display. To show your name (i.e initial plus last name) or Private. |
