[Credit Card Fraud] Hacked Ebay and Paypal

Someone hacked my email account, was able to request password changes for Ebay and Paypal over a weekend splurge to request such nice items as Toshiba laptaps, gold watches be sent to his "friend" @:

Name: Oladipupo Edmunds
Address: DKL, Alpha Photo, apata
City: Ibadan
State: Oyo
Zipcode: 23402
Country: Nigeria.

Don't send items! Don't respond outside of the ebay system. No deals via email without an actual bid. Don't send to a "friend" who is not the registered user. If someone at the American Embassy wants something, they have official ways of getting it.

Looks like the same scenario:

If someone wants you to send something to Nigeria, consider mailing them some used diapers or something.... Never anything valuable.

It is truly mind-blowing, how many fraudulent accounts trace back to the same city "Ibadan". Just search for "ibadan" on this page, and you'll be clicking "find next" for a while.

Oh well, I love »www.eBay.com and it has allowed me to get or fix items that are no longer available anywhere else and/or it saves me large amounts of money over buying local things.

For example I needed to replace the RBC-4 equivalent 12V 12AH Rechargeable SLA Batteries in both of my two APC Back-UPS 650 as their original batteries are just hitting 5 years old and no longer are working for long (just a few minutes of run-time instead of the normal 15-25 minutes). Every local store wanted at least $49.95 each (or more) for the equivalent replacement for RBC-4 batteries plus 6% Sales tax. I found what I needed on eBay and got two (2) RBC-4 equivalent 12V 12AH ZEUS brand SLA batteries shipped to my door for $53.98 (the batteries were $20.35 each and shipping was $13.28) which is a 50% savings over the $105.84 local price ($49.95 x 2 = $99.90 + 6% tax = $105.84). I consider that a very worthwhile savings!!

I have had two bum deals on eBay (about one each in the last two years) and PayPal got my funds back *both* times on sellers that never shipped the items.

So it is not perfect, but if you take your time and work with-in the system, it is great resource.

Doctor Olds

For exactly this type of reason, I left the accounts open, though dormant for a while. To clarify, I'm not trying to bash Ebay or PayPal. PayPal was expedient at closing the account down, and posts warnings every which way but Sunday.

Props, to all those who called me some harsh names in the returned hi-jacked email. But I must say 20% of those contacted (many overseas) wanted to do business with the fake. I only want to raise awareness, that fraud has become the way of the world. Do business with those you know, or have referrals from someone you trust.

You could have avoided this by enrolling in the secure key for e-bay and paypal. I did it when it was first offered, and have been happy to report no breaches.

Perhaps someone working for the man could send a "Toshiba" laptop to the perps; with a tracer; and hunt down the S.O.B.s

I've said it before & I'll say it again.
Provided they will use them as intended, I'd be delighted to ship them a few cases of condoms a few times a year.
