Re: Tomato/MLPPP released (evade throttle or bond two DSL lines)

Will the flash allow the St516 v6 to avoid throttling?

You cannot flash the ST516v6. You can only flash a limited set of routers (i.e. the WRT54GL).

In your case, you'd have to set the ST516v6 to Bridge mode, and let the router handle the pppoe connection.

Unless you're forwarding ports, your network is effectively firewalled off from the rest of the net.

I think hes talking about wifi. Just enable WPA2 and set a paraphrase.

If you want tomato more secure on your lan disable upnp for some reason its on by default. (UPNP automatically forwards ports for you and makes you more vulnerable if your machine gets infected with anything.)

hello everyone,

I have been struggling with bell for the last month or 2.

I was uploading at 110kB/s forever, and now most of the time am stuck at 30kB/s - which is pathetic.

I have gotten my hands on a v3 wrt54gs, so I think this firmware applies to me.

I read some of this a few weeks ago and didn't have the confidence to do it based on the results I read...

my question is: is this now 100% going to work? lol
what is the latest news on this firware?

I have never upgraded firmware, please excuse my stupuid question and help me out, lol
Thanks

It will work if your ISP supports MLPPP. TekSavvy does. Bell does not. Who is your ISP?

Sympatico is my isp - they gave me a 4 month credit because I had a lot of problems & they are so shitty

As soon as the 4 months are up - or maybe sooner, I will switch to teksavvy.

I called bell to cancel but they sent me a new 2 wire modem and gave me 4 months cr... may as well take advantage.

I work as an admin on a torrent site, do a lot of uploading... 150gb - 200 per month. In the last month, I have been stuck at 30kB/s upload, so it is basically impossible to use bittorent.

I just want to get around the throttling... my line has hit speeds of 115kB/s in the past with no trouble.
Thanks

Any updates on Acanac's mlppp support?

I'm on inter.net / uniserve and with the new cap and throttling I'm now looking to change. I don't care that much about torrents but I'm using a legacy application (unlikely to be significantly updated) which doesn't support socks5 proxies and is now being affected by the throttling so mlppp seems to be my best bet. My question is has anyone not working for Acanac gotten it to work by trying to reconnect until hitting to right gateway and is there any update on the proposed solutions either to automate this via Tomato or adding support to all gateways or provide a way to connect only to the right one(s) on Acanac's side? I want to change soon and without knowing if this will work now or how long it will take to get it working and if the special is even still going to be available then I guess I should go with TekSavvy? On the other hand it seems significantly more expansive (40$/mo, I assume that's before tax since it's not specified) than not only Acanac's special than most ISPs' normal rates and mlppp support is still unofficial... is it really worth it? Any other options?

It is 39.95 + 5% GST for Unlimited...

But if you are not doing torrents, I think Premium at 29.95 + 5% GST for 200 GB/month should be more than enough

Personally (considering that you can buy 100GB for $10 when needed on Premium) I would suggest that you only go on unlimited if you are constantly doing more than 300 GB a month

You can make those prices slightly better if you can get in a group...

I have flashed my router with mp2beta2 and am definitely still being throttled. Connection is set to Single Link MLPPP and status says connected 1/1. Any suggestions?

What is this image showing?
It looks to me like you are NOT throttled, as you were getting 400kb/s at 9-11PM
The rest of the low time is during non-throttling hours (at least the before 4:30 bit)

It is pretty strange that the bandwidth would surge at 9:00pm exactly though no? I have been running this torrent since this morning.

Nothing happens Bell-side at 9PM, though.

Re: Any updates on Acanac's mlppp support?

We're working on automating this for Acanac connections (and any other ISP that has a similar setup), and they're working on some possible solutions on their end too. We're going to start doing some testing on an Acanac login tomorrow.

BitTorrent isn't the only bandwidth intensive application ^_^ And I do use it, just don't mind not using it 24/7... It's true that 200GB is more reasonable than 75 and the extra bandwidth isn't that expensive... still, I don't use more than that every month but sometimes and I don't really want to have to meter my usage. But it does sounds like a decent option. I just saw that I might be able to get a free test account at Acanac and that the Tomato mod might come soon so I'll see how it goes. I still have about 2 weeks to make my choice. Thanks for the reply in any case.

Edit: oh, I was the Anonymous Coward and finally registered BTW.

Re: Tomato/MLPPP released (evade throttle or bond two DSL lines)

I wanted to read this and its 38 pages!

so does this really work and bypass the throttle?

Does it work with Speedtouch V516 and Linksys 2102?

That's why we're taking steps to try to reduce that issue. We're posting new threads for each new release (the latest of which is »Tomato/MLPPP v2 beta 2 released), and we're working on a website to try to answer many of the common questions (and make it easy to find the latest version).

It will work with an ST516 and Linksys SPA2102, but you'll need a router that is compatible with Tomato (such as the WRT54GL) to run it. For more info, see »www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq#wha···s_run_on

Just curious, don't ports need to be forwarded in the router in order for certain applications to communicate?
If we port forward, then we are exposed, and if we don't our apps don't work.

Ex:
Utorrent
azureus
grabit
ares
limewire
shareaza

These are the guys ive got listed, although the only ones i really use are utorrent, ares, and grabit (for newsgroups).

Is this by design or will a future version correct this?
