Re: Couple of question about Office license The COA key is used to verify, if necessary, that you have purchased a legitimate, non-counterfeit product. It would be used, if necessary, along with a sales receipt to prove ownership.
The product key is used for activation.
If you fully uninstall Office, or can show that the computer on which it was installed is no longer functional, then you would free an activation. You very likely would have to call Microsoft at the time you wish to active if their records show three existing activations; but the explanation of either of the facts -- it was uninstalled, or the installed instance is on a no longer functioning computer, would suffice.
