| [NFL] Specter Calls Patriots Spying Wider Than Stated
Hmm, this story still has legs.
WASHINGTON After meeting with a former New England Patriots employee who helped the team spy on opponents, Senator Arlen Specter on Wednesday described the teams illicit videotaping tactics as more systematic and deliberate than what the N.F.L. has acknowledged publicly.
Mr. Specter, a Republican from Pennsylvania, said the former employee, Matt Walsh, described elaborate measures by the Patriots to conceal their filming of opponents signals. Mr. Walsh also explained how the Patriots coaching staff gleaned strategic information from members of the teams video crew who had watched the St. Louis Rams walk-through practice before the 2002 Super Bowl.
He also identified more games and opponents that were filmed by the Patriots and detailed the advantages the team gained in later games.
Mr. Specter, a longtime Philadelphia Eagles fan, has battled with the N.F.L. on several issues over the years. This time, with his continued criticism of the leagues investigation into the Patriots, he is raising questions about the legitimacy of the Patriots accomplishments which include three Super Bowl titles this decade, one against the Eagles, and an 18-0 record last season before a loss to the Giants in the Super Bowl.

IDGARA about Spygate, what's done is done. Or as Billycheck says, "It is what it is." But to state the Sphyncter's questioning is an attempt to "cover up economic woes" is flat out bullshit. He's just a pissed off Eagles' fan that also happens to be the ranking member on the Senate Committee on the Judiciary and serves on the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights. So he does have a vested interest with respect to Senate business. -- "I was the bad guy once again. I laughed at their sorrows. Ha ha ha ha ha." |

| reply to Alakar Is anyone here old enough to remember Spector's "Single Bullet Theory"? He downplayed the conspiracy to kill President Kennedy and here he is with a conspiracy theory about the Patriots.
What an ass!

| What part is a conspiracy theory? the part where they cheated by recording signals or when they let players on the IR practice with the team? -- Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground? |

| reply to Alakar And now there's a second report (Matt Walsh was the first) of the Patriots* putting players on IR, letting them practice. This report is from a former Patriots* player, Ross Tucker. »sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/w···dex.html said by Ross Tucker : Walsh's comments to commissioner Roger Goodell earlier this week that New England had players on injured reserve participate in practice wasn't news to me. I had heard the Patriots did this before I signed with them in 2005 and I saw it firsthand during my time there. I asked veteran receiver Troy Brown about it one time and he responded, "Every team in the league does that." I quickly let him know none of the three teams I played for previously had done so.
Basically, the Patriots would put a player on IR, knowing it meant he couldn't play in a game or practice with the team for the remainder of the season. By skirting the rules and practicing him anyway, it allowed them to develop his skills during the year. A side benefit is that they were also able to give some of the older players less repetitions and, therefore, additional rest.
