My Very Short Experience With AT&T DSL

Today my AT&T 6.0 Xtreme DSL service was activated. I received a phone call that my service would be activated today and was told that I would be called later in the day to see if I’m having any problems. My wife said an AT&T technician came to the house to make sure the connection was set and he said he was getting 8mbps on a test which is supposed to be good.
I was having a problem setting it up using my laptop PC so I called AT&T tech support. After going through the menu I got a friendly guy right away who after just 2 minutes founf the problem. A long time ago I disabled my local area connection setting to get rid of the icon in the taskbar. I completely forgot about it but enabling it took care of the problem. I logged on and got online right away, I then set up my Apple Airport Extreme base station wireless router and surprisingly a message popped up that the modem was in bridged mode and the router would have to change it’s settings from DHCP to bridged mode. I clicked OK and it all took care of itself! All computers in the house are now connected wirelessly.
So far so good, AT&T service has been very professional, much better than Comcast. Now to see how the speed is compared to Comcast Thanks to the help from this forum!

By the way, what is the difference between bridged mode and DHCP? (If I'm saying that right).

bridged mode is when you set your dsl modem/router to act only as a modem and letting all the dhcp/pppoe be done by a secondary router ...
dhcp i guess in this case is letting the secondary router only assign ip's to the host machines in the network.

DHCP is a protocol a router uses to assign your computer an IP address so you can work on the network. The IP is private to your internal network and can not bee seen on the outside. It is basically a network management protocol.
