| [Need Info] Gauranteed Price Issues/ Need Opinions From Chicago
Hi everyone, Im new to RCN up here in Boston, and I heard I will soon need a box for every tv in my house. That is fine with me except for the fact that I am locked into a 2 year price gaurantee and I have 1 digi. box and a modem, with phone service also. But I have 3 tvs in my house with analog basic cable. Is there anyone in chicago that has had the 2 year contract and had to deal with getting more boxes. Is this some kind of scam to make my deal go up in price, I was promised this price for 2 years, I hope they will not raise my rates for those additional tv's. Anyone have any info on this for me?

Your rates will go up, there will be rental costs with getting 2 more receivers....it is either $4.95 or $9.95 per box, I can't remember. There is some deal here in Chicago that if you had NO receivers b4 the cutover to full digital, you got the 1st receiver for free, but that was it for the deals. There is also now a "HD Premium" Tier that has 5 or 6 channels in it and has an additonal cost, so if you have HD now, you will need to subscribe to the premium tier if you want all the HD channels. |

I understand, sorta, the more you get the more you pay. But are there additional costs to RCN for the different channels you choose to watch? Am I wrong or are all signals available to all houses and it's the STB (and it's authorization code and chip) that designates what you can or can't see?? If that is the case, all signals/channels are there, it doesn't cost more to send you HD or this premium or that premium, it is simply the result of electronic switching in the STB.
If you pay for HD you should get all HD not some in this package and some in this one. Especially when they all of a sudden decide what was once an included HD channel you had watched for years is NOW a premium HD channel.
Now that the "Digital Tier" should be a non tier as all signals will be digital, we should have either of two scenarios. 1/ Pick and choose totally a la cart 2/ Choice of 2 tiers, Everything except HD, and everything including HD.
I always think the KISS system (keep it simple stupid) works best. Am I a dreamer??? LOL
That's my rant and I'm stickin' to it !! |
