Re: FTP login problem.

well I can't login....since I don't have a username, but I was able to get to the prompt with no issues.

I also connected from the same redback your on up in MI, so it's not an issue with that. Honestly, all signs point towards the problem being on your side.

  Thank you.
Would you know what might it be?
I can ftp as an anonymous to other servers.
I was able to ftp my own and now nothing works. I did not change hardware.

Could be an ACL issue with your IP on a no connection list (probably not but just throwing things out there).
Could be a firewall issue. What FTP client are you using? Some routers/firewalls don't like "active" mode, so try using passive mode that *usually* works. Or if you are using "passive" try "active". Usually one of the 2 work.

I use FileZilla 2.2.22. It is set to passive with fallback to active.
ACL as an Access Control List? Would that be on the ISP side? Since it is my website I should have all the access. It is not unheard of considering the AT&T ways.

Try using DOS....just drop to a dos box and do what I did above. I really don't see where AT&T is the issue here.

Do you have a firewall running?
If so I would turn it off temporarily to see if you can connect with it off.

Yup ACL = Access Control List. With some FTP servers you can sit there and say "allow these people, but deny these people". But I really doubt that's the issue, I was just throwing it out there as a possibility.

Edit: Reading previous posts, you say you can connect to other FTP servers. Weird. Now I'm baffled. The only thing that would be in the way that I could think of would be the firewall.

I thought that the firewall is to blame but all outgoing services are allowed. Since I only upload the content it should be enough. I do not host FTP server. I think I will try to plug right into the modem. Just to be sure.
About connecting to other ftp servers. They all accept anonymous login but I can not see this to be of consequence either.

Regardless of whether you are uploading or downloading FTP works the same way in Active or Passive modes. In Active mode the client tells the server which port to establish the return data channel connection to. The server will connect from TCP port 20 to a port >1023 on the client.

In Passive mode the server will tell the client which high port to connect to on the server's side and the client will then establish the connection outbound to that high port.

Passive mode generally works with most software based client firewalls because it only consists of outbound connections. Active mode will fail, unless the inbound data channel port is open or the firewall is inspecting the FTP communication and automatically identifies the specific port to open.
