| It would take 60 hours to cover all copyright bologni.  I do not think 6 hours will hack it. 60 hours are more like it if all of the copyright rules are discussed. For example does the course cover copyright laws that were set up just to set different fees for playing the same copyrighted material under different circumstances:
1) If you connect a tuner to a PA system in your office and play copyrighted music through the PA system you have to pay a licensing fee.
2) If you set up individual radios in you office and tune to the same station you do not have to pay a licensing fee.
Why? It is legal to play copyrighted material through a reproduction devices internal speakers without paying a fee. If one plays copyrighted material through a reproduction device connected to a PA system it is considered rebroadcasting and requires a fee be paid to the copyright control agency.
3) Playing music that you have purchased through a music on hold circuit connected to a telephone system requires a licensing fee be paid to copyright control because it is considered rebroadcasting.
4) If your sing copyrighted material around a campfire you have to pay a licensing fee.
In 1996 ASCAP sent a demand letter to the Girl Scouts of America demanding that they pay substantial fees because ASCAP considers such singing a performance of the music in question even if there is no audience.
If all of the fine details of copyright law were presented students would have to be an anti laugh drug to prevent them from laughing themselves to death. |
