 [ Bright House] newsgroup speeds

Has anybody noticed a drastic decrease when downloading stuff from the news groups? (BHN-Tampabay). I used to get 1800k and now I barely get 400k (thats connecting 4 times to the news server, the max allowed)

Same thing here in San Diego. Frustrating as hell, pay for 15,000 down, barely get 2,000.

Getting the same here in WI, TWC-Earthlink for the last week or so. My dl graph shows...
300k
0k
460k
0k
277k
0k
etc....
connecting via ssl on port 8080. Ports 443 and 563 don't seem to make a difference. (Usenetserver offers ssl on those 3 ports)

Connecting on the standard port works fine...850k, solid. hmmmm

you don't mention what news group, if RR news group, throttled speeds has been a known factor for quiet some time now on RR news servers, if an outside server check what packages you signed up for, many groups now throttle speeds......good luck

Just last night...

05-16-08 Friday Night 11:55pm, A little slow to start with only one connection for awhile, but within 1 to 2 minutes all four connection working and speed building to 3.xx mbps.

05-17-08 Saturday morning 12:25am, after downloading for about 1/2 hour, all connections drop-ed out for about 50 seconds, 2 connection didn't connect for awhile then back to 4. But not bad for a Friday night.

Newleecher 3.7 final Standard (4 years BH customer) 7/512 connection.

Newshosting being used here also in Central FL. (4 connections) While speed can slow down to 3mbps toward the weekend evenings most of the time it's a steady 7.14mbps (876.6 KB/s). The slowdown appears to be on Newshosting side as I've used Easynews at same time and get my max speed at all hours with 8 connections. This has been the norm since the beginning of the new year. The retention on NH is great as I'm starting to see allmost 40 days without a .nzb & 100 days with a .nzb, so good that I've left 35+ gigs on my EZnews account!

(Edit 5/20/08) Updated Monday speeds

This ain't new guy. This has been going on for a long time now. If it wasn't happening earlier for you, consider yourself lucky.

It's a service you don't pay for. Or should I say it's an added bonus that they even have the servers (in Brighthouse/Time Warners) as far as they are concerned.

Ah here we go again with the added bonus BS. When RR had they're own 3/7 days retention servers full of in-completes newsgroups users screamed and complained. When said users were advised that BellSouth had 10/365 day retention the mass exodus started, then RR outsourced to Newshosting to get them back, simple as that mate! Been all through this before in the RR newsgroup months ago.
