do you mean fresh startup? for that do a wr erase and restart the router...
He probably wont be very friendly towards you if he follows that advice.

Smart init is "enabled" by no'ing the "memory-size iomem" command from the routers configuration.

Specifying the "memory-size iomem" command tells the router how much RAM it should put aside for IO memory (packet buffers and the likes), and disables the smart init feature.

Smart init calculates how much RAM should be put aside for IO memory based on what interfaces are installed in the router when it boots up.
