To insure you are getting off on the right foot with your project here's the obligatory "Oh, my God! I didn't realize that!" piece of knowledge some people don't know about the 870 series of routers...

The standard IOS image only supports one VLAN. If you wish to use more than one VLAN you need to upgrade your router to the Advanced IP Services IOS image.

If you already knew that and have done so then ignore me and carry on...

IIRC the router complains if you try to setup an additional VLAN in the lesser IOS images. If hes managed to setup two, I'd say that hes probably safe in that respect.

But then, he doesnt actually mention what IOS image he is running, so if the OP can confirm, that should settle that matter.
