| SOHO vs. PRO + Rant
Do they use the same line to the switch? Are there any real advantages other then the 200GB CAP? I'm going to get disconnected again on the PRO, it's bullshit. My Cisco router indicates I've only done 98GB this month, Cogeco is saying I'm at 165 GB. My private web server that I use to access stuff when I'm away from my PC states I've used 11 GB of upload which I know is correct, other then that I only use my line for games and porn - I don't download that much porn so that 165 is dead wrong.
I've called them about it and they say it's correct, they told me I'm hogging up all my neighbors internet and that I should upgrade to the SOHO package, lol. That doesn't make an sense at all. Just to be a smartass, I visited 350 houses around my area telling them I was doing a survey, 17 people out of the 350 use Cogeco, 9 of which use Lite, where as the rest are on Standard. I called Cogeco again with this information and again I'm the evil downloader that's screwing it up for everyone, BUT if I switch to a more expensive package, it'll be ALRIGHT! Fucking assholes, I live in St. Catharines, so I have no choice with anyone else. Sad to say, I miss mountain cable, sure it was slower, about 5 Mbits, but I'd pull off 500 gigs a month with no questions. |

| I didn't think it would, I wish there was more competition here.
Catalyst 3550, it's tracking my combined bandwidth leaving it to the modem - not to mention it's VERY accurate, I've done tests to prove its accuracy. Anything internal is on a different scale.
Of course I wouldn't waste my time on something like that, I had the paperboy do it for me, with a tip of course. I was curious and my hunch was right, I live near a lot of older people that don't even have computers. Illegal or not, I really don't care - Cogeco's doing a similar thing, but I believe it's called rape. |

| reply to urbanriot Also, if you think there's a leak in my internal network that's incorrect ANYTHING that requires network access, other than my PC requires direct firewall/port access via the correct credentials. I have a script that runs whenever a network resource in my internal network requests outside access to prompt the user via Internet Explorer, they only get one shot at the username/password and 5 seconds before it denies and disables. |

@cgocable.net | If I go SOHO, do they give me a new modem? |
|

join:2004-10-18 Ridgeway, ON | No, assuming you don't have an ancient modem, it's unnecessary.
If for some reason you think you need a different modem for whatever reason, you can swap them out at a Cogeco kiosk. |

| I'm pretty sure you're wrong, but I'd be interested to hear a Cogeco employee state otherwise. I've swapped my modem since being on SOHO and they gave me the same modem I was running before... and my quality of service is as good as it can be. Not to mention, the modems are capable of doing considerably more than you'll be doing on Cogeco's plans. |

It's possible it's the same...but when the tech came to install I said "Oh...you guys are using the same modem as years ago!" (I had Cogeco internet 4 years back). He said "Well it's slightly different than the home version.", I said "They look identical", he said...something about it being a slightly different model for Business...
Call up the business tech support and ask for yourself though, I'm not wrong about what I heard, and although the tech could be wrong, I doubt he was making that all up for the fun of it. |

| Unless you had a RCA DCM 315 that got swapped for a RCA DCM 425v1 (they look somewhat" similar), as I already said and as DrDog re-confirmed, there's no swapping necessary
edit : and there's definatly no "Home" or "SOHO" modem models... |

I have a DCM325, I take it I'll still need a swap? Only time you'll need to have the modem changed is if you're using an old modem (Samsung Inforanger, COM21, or RCA 245,305) or are going to have Digital Phone by Cogeco which they will install a DHG525 (or whatever the model is now) or if it's problematic.
I would think those older modems would still be fine if you're on Lite. |

  Krauser15
@cgocable.net | I see, well I called Cogeco and my 325 is fine, but they can't switch me over till Tuesday because their all closed except tech support! Damn it! According to him, it'll cost me $15 extra on my final bill to transfer me over for 13 days. |

I don't know what i was using 2 years ago, but it did look identical to what i have now (which I just checked, and it's the 425). So you're probably right, I was probably on the 315 before and have the 325. Not sure why the tech said it was different for Bus. class inet...probably just blowing smoke. |

I had the same thought, however, it's not illegal to go to a door and tell people you're taking a survey (since that's what they were doing). I can't believe that 350 people would answer the question. Anyone knocking on my door I'll tell to take a hike - I don't answer questions about any type of service that we have (be it phone, gas provider, internet, etc.) Of course, I'm an antisocial type who often just ignores the doorbell.
I've said it before though, if they are truly concerned about your neighbours internet experience then they wouldn't simply sell you more bandwith. From my experience I'd say that Cogeco's bandwith count is lower than my actual, not higher. However, I only track my newsleecher traffic (and I didn't reset it this month, so I could be off). Having said that, I'm nowhere near my limit this month (or last)... |

Actually, you're right... however I'd assumed he was misrepresenting himself in some way, or fraudulently claiming to be someone he wasn't. In any case, there's already holes in the story as it came out that 'the paperboy' did all the surveying, instead of '[he] visited'. |
