anon : I used to have Hughes (*grumbles*).

I use an old beater laptop set up with internet connection sharing that is connected to my wireless router, then my desktop and laptop are also connected to that router. I get home from work, plug in the cell phone to charge it and get online (it automatically dials out if a computer on the network needs to get to the internet). The cell-phone is a ROKR Z6M and I get great speeds with it (1 - 1.4mbit in the morning). Cheap router, no air-card, and I needed the cell phone anyways.

I live out in the sticks and was only getting 0 - 1 bars of signal, so I added a JDTeck JD55-PR repeater.

For an extra $25 a month, I've been extremely happy with the performance. It felt great to call up Hughes and tell them where they could put their "new" 24-hour lockdown FAP policy. ;-)

MarthaG : I wanted to mention that yesterday I had a good signal and then it dropped to 1x again. I called tec support and finally they said my PRL needed updated and they fixed it. When I was looking at the Quick Link Mobile to see when it would get fixed I saw Rev A pop up where DO is. It went to DO and back to Rev A and then back to DO where it stayed. Even though speed tests show only 600 down and 100 up my connection has never been more stable. I have restored faith in Alltel and I'm sorry I said they were like HughesNet.
