 Dead USB port?

Something odd I found out today.. I had a new piece of hardware (wacom tablet) and I plugged it into the first USB port but windows never made the found new hardware sound so I moved it to the 2nd port and it worked.

The port does have power as my USB light will work in it but nothing is being detected in that port.

or whatever was plugged into that sport shorted it out to where you get power and that's it. I don't trust these cheap usb fans/lights/etc...

Or there was another device attached there that wasn't properly removed and Windows still thinks it is there and won't reassign the port.

The only way to know for sure would be to try another device on that port such as a USB stick, keyboard, or mouse.
