Promoting a Secondary Domain controller

RaZor2003 join:2003-05-24 Lockport, IL clubs:	Promoting a Secondary Domain controller Ok i have Active Directory with a domain controller setup (all users and group policies like i want them) I pretty much want to replace the domain controller with another system (this will be raid all setup) Would this work:::?? I have a second server (B) setup the second server as a secondary domain controller and then take down the primary, Promote the Secondary DC to Primary. What issues would i run into if any, has anyone else done accomplished this?

craig70130 Premium join:2004-04-27 New Orleans, LA	reply to RaZor2003 There is no 'primary' and 'secondary' domain controllers in Active Directory. Make the 2nd server an AD controller, desginate it as a Global Catalog server and move the FSMO roles to the new server before demoting the original server. DO NOT just take it down - remove AD properly and transfer the roles first.

I cannot stress this enough. This is what the previous network admin did at our company and it's hosed a bunch of stuff. Is Exchange running on the soon to be old server?
