[Equipment] Hello, Newbie Here.

I have Hughesnet Internet and am trying out Alltel's Wireless. Just got it installed tonight and it's the UM150 Modem. My problem is I have a weak signal. Only one to two bars are lit up at any time on the Quicklink Mobile. I was told that I could get a signal booster if I ran into this problem.

Has anyone tried a signal booster and if so, how much did it boost the signal. Also does a signal booster require an outside antenna?

BTW, even with this low of signal and my speed tests are lower than Hughesnet, it's still faster pulling up web pages and checking email than Hughes.

Alltel sells a Cyfre Amplifier / Antenna package to their customers for $199 . It will help your situation greatly. The antenna can be mounted outside or inside . But outside usually works best if it is possible in your location.

Thank you Max Signal! That's the booster they were telling me about.

You sound like you are in the same situation I was in as in the weak signal! I was just getting 1 or 2 bars with just the UM150 and then I got the cyfre amp and a good yagi antenna and now I am staying right at full bars.I am around 3 miles with a couple of hills and trees between me and the tower. That is the reason for the antenna. You get a amp and a outside antenna if needed and you will forget all about hughesnet I did. Here is the average speeds I was getting with just the UM150.

Here is what I am getting with the amp and antenna.

I was averaging around 1500 mbps but I guess the leaves on the trees has hurt the signal.Good luck!

Thank you DaSham58! That is very good news. I'm going to give the Amp and Antenna a try. Hope it works so I can get away from Hughes. Thanks again!
