Ah, TK misses the point again. See in Sweden, as in Canada, downloading music is not illegal, possibly unethical but not illegal. On top of that the Pirate Bay has zero content on its servers. Basically it provides links (like Google) and no real content.

Check out »thepiratebay.org/legal for some amusing links to previous (failed) hollow legal threats.

Well, the legal threats are not hollow. It is only a matter of time before these guys end up in big trouble. Their ridiculous emails in response to takedown notices will end up in the court record.

Now, I don't care for the RIAA and their approach in the US is a ludicrous abuse of the legal process, but it is their property and sooner or later folks who upload and download are going to pay for it.

Perhaps you need to reread the "Fair Use" section of the copyright law.

As for your personal attack, you are not correct.

What conspiracy theory? I stated FACT, your National Police Force had its collective head up its ass chasing "infringing IPs" on the interwebs while a plot was hatched and carried out to take out WTC. I didnt state who I thought did it.Its simply a matter of priorities. as in, Copyright infringment a CIVIL OFFENSE is more important than NATIONAL SAFETY.No conspiricy theories here ,,,sorry please come again. They're still making lots of money off their site. You could argue that since they are making big $$$ from their site they are profiting from piracy even if indirectly.

Well what do you expect from people with techinal college degrees? Thank god people in Sweden are smarter than the average country, cause they are more capable at having independent thought.

And by what measurement are you figuring these Swedish are smarter?I was unaware that the latest technologies were coming from Sweden! Are they all being designed from that cool knife?

it all depends what "crooks" you want to deal with, tpb enables piracy just as much as google imho.
i really hope tbp wins, piracy is making money off someone elses "work" if i download a song (i dont do songs radio is free) and i am just listening to it all by my lonesome then the riaa can just shove it. i would've downloaded it bc i dont have the cash to pay for it bc that sooo much easier to buy a cd than to find a good quality song online.

Both TPB and Google provide the location of data which you request them to locate. The only difference is that Google supplies the URLs of Web Sites while TPB supplies .TORRENT files that point at files that can be accessed via a P2P client. In fact, Google will supply you with the URLs of Trackers.

Most Pirate Bay trackers are able to be seen directly from Google if you search for the name.

no such thing as right or left wing..
the global elite want control, this isn't a part of the plan.

just like the gas prices going up and up (yes.. it's controlled by the global elite.. NOT opec)

the pirate bay is just a portal. if people want to download music there, let them I have other ways of getting music

downloading music only told me to buy the cd.. now that the RIAA is fighting this, buying cd's is wrooooong since they bring home most of the $20 or $15 (or, in the case of pink floyd's the wall $35)

the artist gets $.25 cents per disc sold.

wake up please people.

Based on your post about Esme Vos and the personal attacks you launched against her, you also fit the definition of troll that you have posted here...

A troll has nothing to do with personal attacks, that's just called being a jerk. A troll is someone who makes off topic or controversial comments with the intention of gaining attention or causing conflict.

I have noticed that you never justify your opinions on copyright infringement, and that is likely the reason he (and many others) feel you are simply trolling. Perhaps you could explain why you feel copyright infringement is no different from stealing a physical object. And if you are unable to explain it, perhaps you should reconsider your opinion as being wrong.

Yes! The owners of the music are corrupt and should be in prison for the strongarm tactics they employ against their signed artists and the public.

The Pirate Bay doesn't host copyrighted materials.

»thepiratebay.org/about

"Only torrent files are saved at the server. That means no copyrighted and/or illegal material are stored by us. It is therefore not possible to hold the people behind The Pirate Bay responsible for the material that is being spread using the tracker. Any complaints from copyright and/or lobby organizations will be ridiculed and published at the site."

Last time I checked, Where Pirate Bay servers are located, it is NOT Illegal to download music.

Just because it is here in the good ol USA, doesn't mean it is everywhere. So basically the AA's have NO case, unless they bully TPB government into submission with their gobs of money and lawyers.

Sweden is a signatory to most of the International treaties on copyright and phonograph recordings. I believe that it is only a matter of time before a more comprehensive and rational approach to copyright protection evolves under these treaties, which will be the end of RIAA's (and others) misconduct.

It will also be the end of anyone who facilitates the taking of intellectual property.

Neither. I don't know much about MPAA tactics, but as I have posted repeatedly I do not approve in any way of the RIAA approach. Did you actually read what I posted?

Canada is also a signatory of the same treaties and it is legal for people residing in Canada to make copies of the music they have purchased, including making copies from the internet.

As has been pointed out previously, US law does not apply outside US borders, and just because corporations make the laws in the US doesn't mean they do everywhere (yet).

Re: arrrgh mateys

Just because some people choose to break the law does not mean corporations can strangle my rights to do what is legal for me. Guns are used to commit crimes, as are cars, should both/either be made illegal because some people use them to commit crimes?

And actually, I was a little to conservative in my original claim; it appears any download of copyrighted material for personal use is not illegal in Canada...yet.

"Sharing copyrighted works on peer-to-peer networks is legal in Canada, a federal judge ruled on Wednesday, handing the record industry a sharp setback in its international fight against file swappers." [»www.news.com/2100-1027_3-5182641···=st_pop]

"Canadian courts have ruled that consumers have the right to copy any recording from the original copy even those they do not personally own. This consumer right has been extended by the courts to include peer-to-peer downloads." [»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_c···ght_law]

"Copyright violation is NOT a crime, unless in the pursuit of profit. It is and always has been a civil matter at the end user level. Of course, if you press 1000 DVD's with the motive to sell the work, that is in fact a crime.
...
Simply read the FBI warning on ANY DVD word by word and you'll note the subtle distinction, as they cannot call it a criminal offense, and do not, because simple filesharing and personal violation of copyright is not a crime." [»www.edu-cyberpg.com/Music/musiclaw4.html]

Of course, the CRIA (Canada's version of the RIAA) is fighting hard to change the laws, and oddly the ones fighting against the CRIA... the musicians: "But the Canadian Music Creators Coalition, whose members include Sarah McLachlan, Sam Roberts and Avril Lavigne, has said it would not like to see a law that would lead to lawsuits against music fans." [»www.cbc.ca/arts/music/story/2007···aw.html]

Yes! I know technically challenged people who find it easier to download their songs opposed to ripping their cd's in respect to bullshit drm and putting it on a mix cd for auto or onto a mp3 player. Ironic?

Studies have shown that the TPB actually increases profits for music artist as well keeping the global warming down via the inter tubes. I have as much evidence to prove this is true as you or anyone can prove otherwise.

It's a no win situation as they say "have your cake and eat it too", if you want to accuse hosting links to content as stealing, then you can't play semantics and not accuse everyone else who does the same (google, new groups, yahoo, even this site, even you).

Spoken like a true Neo-Con TK

These guys aren't crooks...they have broke no laws

I hope the Pirate Bay Wins...in a sense they are figthing the good fight against an organization of Criminals

the RIAA, MPAA, etc have all "repeatedly " broke RICO Laws of Extortion and have Practiced Racketeering and Corrupt Organization laws...why are they not tried? they are guilty..they harrass poor people with lawsuits, with little to no proof knowing people can't affrod to fight them in court so they get money...that is extorition my friand plain and simple

Not to Mention Media Sentry and others have broken Federal Computer hacking laws hacking into peoples computers is a crime...yet no one does anything about it.

The Pirate Bay is fighting the good fight....the fight for Liberly of the Technological age and the Liberty of the Internet...my gosh man...if the TV stations would have won their lawsuit, we wouldn't have VCR, DVD recorders, and etc today..or even cd and dvd burners in our computers...thank god they lost

Keep it up pirate bay...you are paving the future for a new electronic age

they may just make DRM useless and people will give up on it...that would be the biggest technological victory since Windows 3.1

How can you be a crook when you don't commit any infringement? I guess you figure Yahoo, MSN, Google etc are all also crooks since they link people to infinging works?

Personally, I hope The Pirate Bay's legal team delivers a full broadside into 'em.

It is the same as being a fence for stolen goods. The legal term is criminal facilitation.

And here is a new wrinkle which just came down from the Supreme Court today. And that is FREE SPEECH does not extend to invitations to illegal transations(read that copyright infringement). While this was aimed at child pornography, the SC decision puts limits on all speech inviting illegal actions. »news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080519/pl···nography
In a seven to two vote, the high court said free speech guarantees did not include invitations to illegal transactions.

Perhaps they are crooks but in this case the people going after them are very bigger crooks in my book. These media companies are collecting huge sums of money by forcing people to by content they couldn't sell in a free market but can force people to pay for to get the stuff they want.

If Hollywood ever decided carried out their business in an ethical manner I might feel sorry for them but they don't so I hope TPB and others like them bleed the scum for every penny they can.
