That's Comcast in NJ in a nutshell: WE care for the bears, but not for the people.... |

| reply to jobwelldone i'm pissed because they're using that stupid "no more space" line with me about no more channels. Well move some of the analogs to digital like qvc, leased access, educational and governmental to digital since there's nothing to watch on leased access and the edu and gov channels ever just a stupid black screen a waste of space if you ask me!!! How about moving fyi to digital as well that's four channels so they can add 12 digital or hd channels in their space. |

| reply to jobwelldone The Storer cable systems got them because they had room. Suburban cable systems didn't because the 2 slots that used to be open a few months ago were used for on demand and another downstream DOCSIS channel to keep up with demand.
Still doesn't explain why they haven't removed any analog channels though...and why we don't get our other 2 RSNs in HD full time. |

Ah so they must have pretty large nodes 1600+ HP with high penetration. Taking the easy way out, at the expense of bandwidth would be to waste precious spectrum by bandaiding the problem with extra carriers. The "Correct" way to handle that problem is not to brute force extra wasteful QAMs for HSI and VOD, but to split the nodes up to 4 ways. First it can be done logically in the headend combiner network, and then when that solution is exhausted it can be done physically out in the field. I think they should get it down to 250 homes passed per narrowcast channels and you should be able to live on 4 QAMs for VOD and 1 for CDV/Data.
Of course axing some analog would be nice to free some spectrum, but if current contracts don't allow for it at this time, well then start splitting nodes and get some of that narrowcast bandwidth back.
I hear a lot of complaints about your system sansri88. Comcasts biggest paying customers, the elite HDTV owners, will flee to Fios (when available) and DirecTV. We'll see who's laughing all the way to the bank when that happens. Cooperate on the other hand has stated that HD will be a BIG push this year. It's only a matter of time until Cooperate comes into your system and takes corrective action. I wish you guys the best of luck. |
