 Failed to Ping to 192.168.x.x !!! |
Hi there.
It's Vodafone Zuhause Talk & Web.
I wanted to upgrade the firmware (it's in .img format), but I don't know how to do it when I can't access the admin page.
With ipconfig/release, Windows (2000 Pro SP4) said "All adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses. The addresses were automatically configured and can not be released.". With ipconfig/renew, the message IS "DHCP server unreachable".
ALL pings to the router's default IPs also failed. (See the attachment to believe. )
Someone please help me!
Thanks. |

 ipconfig/all, ipconfig/release, and ipconfig/renew | Ping to 169.254.217.212 that redirects to 127.0.0.1 (localhost) |
Take a look at the screen captures. |

| Your Ethernet card does not have a Valid Private IP on the 192.168.X.X Network. It is stuck on a 169.x.x.x IP generated by APIPA in the OS as it cannot see a DHCP server. That likely means the Router you are trying to use is either damaged/bad or someone turned off it's DHCP server (you could try a factory reset and would need to look up that procedure in the Owners/Users Guide as I don't know about your specific Router).
Or you could try setting up your LAN IP manually to a 192.168.X.X IP address and then see if you can access the Router Interface.

| Hey thank you for the info on APIPA, I searched for 169.254.217.212 on Google but didn't find any results that mentioned APIPA. (Now I do with just 169.254)

- Do you think the router is still repairable?

| Did you read the User Guide and reset the Router to its Default settings which will turn back on the DHCP server? I would try that first as it is the easiest fix.
The setting of a Static LAN IP is shown here:
»portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
If the Router is supposed to be at 192.168.0.1 then set your PC to use 192.168.0.100 subnet 255.255.0.0 and set the Gateway the same as the Router IP of 192.168.0.1 and set the DNS to the Router IP 192.168.0.1
