Someone please explain this:

Here's a quick question. If 'piracy' (p2p) is causing as much as a huge drop in sales as the MAFIAA is crying foul about, can corp. shills like TK please explain the p2p usage data provided by cable MSO's and sandvine equipment mfgr's, that 5-10% of their users (i.e. the "heavy p2p pirates" (assuming there's NO open source software being transfered over p2p, which we know is a complete LIE)) consume 80% of their bandwidth? If the # of people tech-savvy enough to pirate using p2p is THAT low, how come it's causing so much of an issue with the music industry's sales?

As to piracy itself, I've pretty much unplugged myself when it comes to the tosh that the music industry comes out with these days. Sorry, but to me, a bunch of random notes jumbled together with some wierd psycho effects just doesn't cut it as "music" Movies? I either catch whatever broadcast networks air(although IMHO, it's just as much pure manure). Software? Don't even get me started on THAT, because I use Linux about 90% of the time these days.
So, in all, I really don't see the point in piracy, but while we're at it, I hope and pray that people start pirating these music labels into extinction.

Re: Someone please explain this:

Yes it's ONLY 5-10%. Careful now you're dealing with percentages.

Customers: As of March 31, 2008, Comcast served customers in 39 states and the District of Columbia.
24.7 million cable customers
14.1 million high-speed Internet customers
5.2 million voice customers

5-10% of 14.1M is 705,000 - 1,410,000
That is a huge number considering a "Platinum Album" is one that sells over 1M copies.

Re: Google FTW

The idea that creative endeavors are the result of monetary gain is such a load of crap. It's one of the problems with society today. I can't picture Bach, Beethoven, or Mozart sitting around saying, oh this will be a hit and I'll make a million. Or Shakespeare saying well I'm not making much money guess I better stop writing plays and get a real job. Come on people wake up and smell the coffee, creativity is meant to be shared, otherwise the purpose of it's existence is null and void.

Re: Someone please explain this:

Yeah, but compared to the country's total population, what is approx. 1.5 million people? It's barely a dent in the MAFIAA's earnings.
Even if we extrapolate that to the rest of the ISP's, I seriously doubt the problem is as severe as the **AA's are crying foul about.
