WRT54G Resets?

A few weeks back bought a new WRT54G v8 router to replace my wired D-Link. On the WAN side, it's connected to my ST516 modem. I have my main computer wired to the router, my other computer using wireless. Both WinXP.
In the 2 weeks of using the 54G, I have had to reset it 4 times in order to get connection. It will work fine for days, shut down puters, the next day no connection and have to hard reset 54G. When it goes buggy, I've noticed if I try to access the router interface, the pages go slowwwww. A hard reset seems to fix all the probs. Are these routers known for this, or is this an isolated issue? Something I have set in the setup? Thanks.

When you hard reset do you mean pushing and holding the reset button in for 30 seconds, or simply unplugging/plugging back in the power? Sounds like some ip tables are overloading the router or something and restarting it clears it all out. Have you looked for updated firmware?

Just unplugging the power. It still retains the settings I have made without having to redo them. It has the latest "factory" firmware, Jan '08. My D-Link is older, but never had probs like this with it. If it is the ip tables, is there a resolve?

Do you know if you have 8.0, 8.1, or 8.2? I see an April 08 firmware for the 8.1. Just checking.

Other than firmware updates, there is really not much you can do. You say you shut down your computers for the night, is it all the computers? The only experience I have had that kills a router and causes your symptoms is p2p stuff. Lots of connections just bog the router right down, to the point where even accessing the web-based administration pages are slow as hell. A simple solution to your problem is probably one of those wall socket timers that turn on/off automatically at set times... that is if your computers are never used in the middle of the night. It's a shitty way of making your router work in the morning, but it could do it.

Do you use the wireless at all? If not I would disable it, it is worth a try.

8.0.0.5 build 002. I was on the Linksys site a few days back, and what I have was the most current offered. I'll have to check again.
I've read that before per p2p, and I don't use it, so it shouldn't be an issue. On the wireless side, is my 2nd box and a wireless printer. I've only used my laptop with it, maybe twice, in the 2 weeks since having the Linksys. The wireless simplifies my setup here, and was the main reason of going with the 54G.
