| Manual Keying ?
Our problem is our Netopia 3346n was freezing for up to one minute. Users are getting frustrated because they have to wait. This does not happen at any particular time it could be anytime during the day. Although noticed when busy.
Our Network Consultant suggested we get the 3346ENT and enter Manual keys which will eliminate recycling every 8 hours. The 8 hours comes from our Consultant.
We changed out the 3346n for a 3346ent, entered manual keying at one of our remote locations. We could not bring up our AS400 connection so we took out the manual keying.
Since I doubt that we need to change out the router I called Netopia today and explained our issue with recycling every 8 hours, they said they have never heard of the recycling problem.
I brought up the Manual keying, he had me check the 3346n Router thru the Internet and found that we have entered an encryption key and I was told this is correct. He told me that the problem is something else that the router should never go down, never freeze.
Then I was forwarded to another Tech person and he told me that what it is doing is waiting for each PC or printer to finish what it is doing. So if I hit the enter key and two seconds later someone else hits the enter key. My screen will come back first.
Very curious what the experts think! |

| I use a 3346N on our home network without problem. Not sure what you mean by "manual keying." Are you talking about using DHCP to issue LAN IP addresses? If so it should be invisible as leases are renewed transparently before they expire.
When this happens is it possible to access router administration page? If so most likely nothing is wrong with the router.
More likely, if you are using PPPoE, ISP is having trouble maintaining PPP session forcing router to reconnect. Take a look at router DSL stats to determine how often it has to reconnect and number of errors.
How much traffic is using the Internet connection?
Your WAN connection is overloaded. A single person downloading a large file can tie up the WAN link for a long time delaying other traffic. Or perhaps some of your employees are using P2P at work.
