| Request help w/MLPPP for non-TSI
Hi, I subscribe to a different ISP than TSI. I have done the tomato thingy and everything is runnin OK. My ISP (Sentex) confirms that they have MLPPP running on their servers. Tomato works OK, however, I am still throttled.
Since I am using an ol' speedtouch home, would somebody be kind enough to tell me if the following settings are OK for MLPPP on the modem, or should I change something? |

| The setup of your Alcatel modem does not matter. If you can surf the internet, its fine.
Your modem is simply acting as a bridge for your router, and it is set up correctly. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! |

| Btw, have you tried the Windows XP (assuming you have an XP machine) of testing MLPPP?
You'd have to bypass your router and connect the modem directly to your computer to try. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! |

Talked to ISP's support and they assured me that MLPPP is enabled at their end. However, as far as I know, if a router cannot connect via MLPPP it then silently falls back into regular PPPoE. Problem is, I don't think I have any easy way to find out (waiting for tomato ML v2.0 with an MLPPP indicator).
So... I was thinking, perhaps my modem settings are degrading the connection to a point MLPPP is not possible. That's why the question.
Anyhoo.... tx! a bunch! |

If your modem is in bridge mode, it should not have any conflicts with establishing a MLPPP connection... Both the modified Tomato firmware and the Windows MLPPP trick work on TekSavvy.
Perhaps Sentex' equipment is different than TekSavvy's. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! |

Both the modified Tomato firmware and the Windows MLPPP trick work on TekSavvy. Perhaps Sentex' equipment is different than TekSavvy's. The modem is not enabled to be in "router" mode (i.e. I have not hacked it to make it a "Pro"). As far as I know the "downgraded" version of this modem can only operate in bridge mode. However.... I am not an expert.
Just bought a 516 and will swap and review... Hopefully...
Re: equipment difference maybe... or... their configuration is different... or... they misconfigured.... however... the MLPPP protocol *should* be the same... implementation may vary...so it *should* work...but it aint....
Oh well... will keep testing....
Tx! a BIG bunch! |
