When overclocking, people prefer 1:1 ratio ... in which they also OC the RAM.
As you run at stock speed on CPU, RAM @ 266Mhz (C4), of course, does NOT run faster than RAM @ 400MHz (C5).
People use lower CAS (but still at RAM rated speed)to archive better result when benching only.
IE: RAM rated 800MHz, CAS 4 (PC6400 C4), OCers would prefer run 1:1 (FSB:RAM) ratio to get better result (with SuperPI, WPrime,...). For higher FSB, they willing to loose CAS latency to get what they need. That's reason why people try to get low CAS latency RAM so when OCing, they still can raise the ratio to "acceptable" number (let's say: C5) |
