1 edit | Looking for VOIP service with real name caller ID
I'm looking for some different VOIP service that would show the caller ID of any phone company, like the name caller ID found on a landline. Unfortunately I did not dig too deep when I signed up with Callcentric, on the features page there was fine print that in order for me to see a name with the number the number called from has to be a Callcentric number. Thats a dirty trick, but I can't complain since their service is so cheap. However I'm fine with paying a little more but to have a real name caller ID. It's fine as long as its SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN $40 a month for local calls. Anyone know any cheap(er) service that would have this feature? Thanks in advance.
*EDIT* I should probably mention that I am in USA area code 804. |

| Future-Nine provides callerid. You can try a free account and if you have an IPKALL account may be able to test the callerid without having to make a deposit.

| IpKall does not provide "true" Caller ID Name though.
Our ordered/pay-for numbers do provide free CNAM when available. -- Nitzan Kon, CEO Future Nine Corporation |

I have Lingo and its CID + name works very well. It's a very important factor for me to sign up with a voip provider.
EDIT: Both incoming and outgoing CID + names work with Lingo's service. Of course, outgoing CID can be disabled if so desired. |

| reply to r00tbeer before you go switching companies, be sure you realize that caller ID works in two directions. incoming caller ID shows you info about someone calling you. outgoing caller ID shows your info to the numbers you call. those are two separate services, and a carrier that offers incoming caller ID might not support outgoing caller ID. For example, Vonage will tell you who is calling you, but you will appear anonymous to those you call. yet a separate issue is directory listing. very few VOIP providers will be able to ensure that your number is listed in local phone directories. when evaluating new providers, you should understand what you'll get. |

These are the only ones I've used, that provide incoming CNAM info.
I have not had any luck getting CNAM info with future-nine. |

Not only do they have CID, but an unlimited contact list where you can customize what shows up on your Caller ID when someone on your list calls. Helpful when the CID would normally show something like "Acme Services" and it's really your friend John Smith calling. |

| reply to r00tbeer Nitzan set me up with a DID for testing, so I'm not sure where it's from but it does not pass CNAM info. I also tried forwarding a DID that I know passes CNAM info, but that did not work either. I haven't given up hope though |

Cheap international DIDs too. |

| reply to montano Both DIDs you mention come from DIDx (wholesale DID provider). Those sometimes show CNAM, but not all of them do.
Our standard DIDs come from Verizon and do show CNAM in almost all cases. -- Nitzan Kon, CEO Future Nine Corporation |
