Belkin router suddenly won't connect to the internet

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

I am in the UK using a Belkin Router (F5D7230-4, version number 7001uk), and my ISP is Virgin Media. Last night, the router appeared to stop working: websites wouldn't load, I couldn't download my e-mails, and so on. However, I remain 'connected' to the wireless network connection. The speed is 54.0mbps, as it usually is, and it says the signal strength is 'excellent'.

On the front of the router, the only lights that are on are the power light, the modem light, and the wireless light. The internet light is off, though I can't remember now whether or not it was on when it was working, because I'm usually on a computer in another room when I'm online.

Completely at a loss as to how to rectify this problem. I've updated the firmware, restarted it, and the ISP says there is absolutely no problem at their end - indeed, plugging the cable modem directly into a computer at least allows that one machine to go online. I'm forced to conclude that it's a router issue.

I phoned Belkin support, but they rather unhelpfully suggested that I buy an Ethernet cable from PC World and connect it from my router to my computer, and refused to help me further until I did that... but I'm not doing that when it worked perfectly well yesterday.

Anyone got any ideas of what could be wrong? I'd been downloading something from a torrent site earlier in the day, could that be it?

Any suggestions you may have to put this right will probably result in me putting me in your will or something.

Thanks in advance!

You really need to see if the wired ports on the router can get to the internet. Also, you need that kind of connection to properly (and safely) configure the router. Borrow an ethernet cable and try what Belkin suggests.
