Have you looked for it in Disk Management?

Yes, have you checked disk management? It's possible that it 'died' in a way that it lost its formatting. If it doesn't contain information that it has a 'drive letter' it won't show up in 'My Computer', but should in Disk Management.

Ive had it a couple of years. So i did find it in disk managment, i downloaded some "free" software and it found all my files but its not free to recover them. Does anyone have some truly free partition recovery software?

Usually , if it shows up in disk management then you can double click on the drive letter and it will open unless it is corrupted. I have the same problem. I also have the same problem with removable media. I can access them through disk management as long as they show up there, unless there is a problem with the disk or USB stick. I haven't found a repair for it yet. PIA but I can get my files.

Yup. Save my bacon many times in situations like this. You can them copy them to another drive or burn them to DVD.
