| BPON ---> GPON: Not happening in existing BPON CO's?
I just had 3 techs over here to install some equipment for FiOS TV (see »How many techs does it take for a CableCARD install? for more info about that).
Anyways, I asked them when I could expect my CO to make the switch over to GPON from BPON since Verizon has said that they will do all new installs as GPON and transition BPON's to GPON. The techs said that the switch to GPON for BPON isn't going to happen because it would be too much work to replace equipment in the CO and all of the ONT's.
Wasn't this expected by Verizon when they said they were going to make the switch? Are the techs right or does Verizon plan to update BPON CO's? |

@verizon.net | why do you care? the BPON ont on the side of your house can support a 622Mbps connection.
gpon olts can be installed into any co.

| They'll upgrade before they are close to reaching capacity, there is no need right this minute and the capital would better spent rolling out new CO's. |
