If you do call you will get the run around, mediacom will not support a tv's qam tuner at this time. Get a box if you want support on those. Not saying they won't or shouldn't work, but you won't get any help getting them. |

If I have to get a box to get HD I'm out of there. My parents had mediacom digital, there's no way I'm dealing with waiting 2-3 seconds for any control input to register. What a piece of junk. |

What am I suppose to guess what your concerned with? You listed only qam channels, stupid me thought you were concerned with them. |

| reply to mculbert Most DCTs are pretty fast and responsive. Better than TIVO by a long shot. Also I have seen some TVs take about 3 sec to switch to another HD channel.
Anyway Mediacom does not care about your (in)ability to get HD locals via your TV tuner. However if you have problems with your analog channels you need to call them. Most of the time once they fix that issue your digital channels will come in just fine since it's all signal related.
Just don't mention the HD channels because as far as Mediacom is concerned you don't get them. |

They must have an older box. Pester them to give you a newer one if you have to get one. Mine changes channels and navigates the program guide almost instantly. My friend got one of the older ones and his still has that annoying delay. My box is tiny, too, like 1/3-1/2 the size of the older ones. The only glitch I used to have was with On Demand giving me an error message occasionally, but I haven't had that in ages. -- You're watching Sports Night on CSC so stick around... |

You probably have one of the Butler Pace DCTs. |

And here we go with the Tivo bashing again. Tivos are very quick to change channels. Much faster than the Mediacom DVRs. I don't know what you got against Tivo, man, maybe its that they make consumer electronics that works well, or looks nice, or maybe its just that you can't afford one, whatever it is, grow up and move on. Your feelings about Tivo seem to be shared by almost all techs at Mediacom I had the pleasure misfortune to deal with. Its all cablecard equipment. Just set up the damn cable card and move on.
Suffice it to say, I'm much happier with Dish network now, that is a company that can at least get two HD-DVRs into a customers home without you having to beg for it... |

| wow I can't believe you stuffed so much crap in such a tiny post.
Tivos even the latest (read most expensive) series 3 is just so damn SLOW. It is by far the slowest DCT I had to deal with. Even the old 2000 series DCT seems faster. I deal with this hardware daily (though there are very FEW Tivo 3 boxes out there, wonder why if this is such a great product you claim it to be? ) |

I'm sure you'd argue your El Camino is a fine automobile as well and gets you to work just fine. |

| reply to Anonymous LOL I used a Tivo Series 3 and Tivo HD every day until I canceled all my Mediacom crap and switched to E*. Got tired of paying $10 for 5 HD channels. Either way, both worked better than the DCT 6412 III I got from Mediacom (all 3 of them, see, it broke 3 times and had to be replaced). Channel changes were faster, not to mention that I didn't lose all my recordings when Mediacom decided to hit the box randomly at night, or when the box crapped out.
But yeah, no one is buying Tivos, they're all completely happy with s&%t DVRs from the cable company that don't respond to half the buttons pressed, take about 30 seconds to start playing a show, crash continually, and don't give you the option to export video to a computer... yeah... completely happy. |

I don't know what you got against Tivo, man, maybe its that they make consumer electronics that works well, or looks nice, or maybe its just that you can't afford one What I have against TiVo is that you pay up front for the equipment = Your responsibility if it breaks / buy all new when the later models come out. It doesnt work very well either. There are not as many problems with TiVo's vs. moto DCT's but look at the market penetration. And many of the "problems" with moto DCT's arent even DCT problems they are firmware problems or problems with a service that TiVo couldnt even hope to offer (like VOD). Cant afford one? You're damn right. I Cant afford one until they drop to a reasonable price and ditch the monthly fees. AND the fact that I cannot afford one has nothing to do with my income. I probably pay more in taxes than you make in a year...
Anyway... that is another reason I cant stand TiVo, It is simply a status symbol... Just like the welfare mamas living in HUD Housing with no jobs driving a brand new Escalade. The same with HDTV's, but I have beaten that horse to death already...

But when they dont they, the equipment you are trying to install them in, and the headend computer equipment become a gigantic pain in the ass and it is VERY difficult to determine where the problem lies.

| Tivos cost roughly $300. The service, is roughly $13 a month, or about the cost of eating a single meal out. My TV cost way more than that, as did my iPod, my computer, all of which I use less than the TV. If you think that $300 for something you use every single night is expensive you've got some messed up priorities. Let me know when I can sync my iPod up to my Motorola DVR and copy the TV shows I have recorded over. Or when I can load up hours of programming onto my laptop for a long flight. Or where I can record every show/movie/etc with Stephen Colbert in it. Those are the features that make Tivo worth it. Maybe the Motorola DCT issues are due to faulty firmware, but who controls the firmware? |

but who controls the firmware? The MSO Controls what gets activated in the firmware for the DCT's. And we all know that mediacom cripples the features.
And that is expensive |

| So you're saying that the box that I buy that works for years and years with software uncontrolled by the cable company is a bad thing, when the box I get from the cable company (picked and purchased by them, with firmware controlled by them) that crashes all the time, is a good thing?
Can I have some of what you're smoking?
And seriously, for as much time as I spent watching it, $300 was cheap. Not to mention when I got E* I sold my Tivo equipment for the same price as I got it new... |

| I did not once say TiVo was "bad"...
I gave you the reasons (again) That I Do not like TiVo...
But I dont let TV run my life...
$300, I'd go buy my kids something to play with outside...
I'm in a minority I guess... Only have 2 TV's, one in the family room and one in my computer room... I refuse to get HD until absolutely neccesary.
Personally... I love my Dish DVR
BTW I love |

| No kids, no wife, just a girlfriend who was as frustrated by the Mediacom box as I was. And you're not the one who constantly puts down Tivo as inferior -- thats an "Anonymous" Mediacom employee. As for HD, once you try you never go back, believe me. I was in Japan about a year ago and saw some of their super HD stuff, so clear it made you almost sick to your stomach, when I got home all my old SDTVs were at the curb... although the HD content over here is a bit lacking, I never understood the shows I saw in Japan, thats for sure, just schoolgirls laughing, but hey, I'll watch! |
