| If you're working on someone's PC with IE7 and XP3 And IE keeps crashing and freezing, check to see if Yahoo Toolbar is installed.
That was what was crashing it in this case. I had tried reinstall, uninstall, system file checker, etc etc
all to no avail. Turns out some of the add-ons for older IE7 won't work with the newer IE7.
Discovered it by luck. Was a frustrating problem.
I tried to get them to use just Firefox, but they kept saying they wanted IE. Plus, you need IE for windows update if you don't want to download and install via Microsoft's Download center.
So word to the wise. Nuke Yahoo Toolbar! -- "Regulatory capitalism is when companies invest in lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians, instead of plant, people, and customer service." - former FCC Chairman William Kennard (A real FCC Chairman, unlike the current Corporate Spokesperson in the job!) |
 | You could also install FireFox, the IETab extension, and set some sites (like Windows Update) to automatically open in IETab. Go to Tools->Add-Ons->IE Tab->Options. Make sure "Enable Sites Filter" is checked and enter the websites into the box. (Windows Update appears to be added by default.) |
