[CT] Really? Gas prices rise that much in two weeks?

Just a small rant here...

Thank gosh I live in the very NE part of CT, as in the past two weeks I have seen 93 octane gas go from $3.99 a gollon to $4.33. Is it really that bad? Can it really be that much of an issue to go up $.34 in two weeks?

I always buy my gas in MA or RI, you guys have less of a gas tax.

This whole oil and gas price thing is out of control. To me the whole thing is about greedy stock speculators, and not so much supply and demand.
I haven't yet figured out why prices change every day when most stations get gas deliveries once a week. So in theory the price should be adjusted once a week, based on how much the station paid for the fuel for that weeks delivery. Not every day.

Agreed. I was just shocked to see the price as high as it was, and how it went up so fast.

All I know is I can't afford to take "unneeded"trips any more. I cut back my driving, and consolidate as much as I can.
I used to go to Boston, for the hell of it to visit a friend. It used to cost me oh, maybe 50 dollars. A few weeks ago I went down, for the hell of it. It cost me almost 110 dollars in gas. I'll never do that again.
Unless something really drastic happens (and it won't) We are screwed here. The price of fuel and oil is so high, most don't have enough "liquid" cash. Many can't even afford to buy enough food or their medication.
What really pisses me off, is that we are MAKING FUEL OUT OF OUR FOOD, (Ethanol) so now we don't have enough food. Who's the ass that made that bright decision?

Gas prices in CT are totally nuts. We're in Guilford, and had to go to a wake Friday night in Shelton. We left the house at 5, and came back about 8, traveling along 95. At the Truckstop of America, in the 3 hour time, gas had gone up 5 cents a gallon. The following morning, back to Shelton to the funeral...it had gone up another 3 cents.

I'm curious about something...if you're pumping gas at a station, and the price goes up while you're pumping, which price do you pay?

Yipes, that's crazy!
One of the stations here is up to $4.45 for 93. It's ridiculous.

I agree it is mostly speculators. Demand has gone down in the US. Here in Boston more people are taking public transit we're actually on record for the highest ridership numbers ever. I carpool to work because I work outside the city, and gas is always a different price on the way home than it was on the way there. Thank goodness I only drive to and from work 2 or 3 times a week. The rest is carpooling and the weekends I only take the T.

If it is indeed speculators, they will eventually get bitten. Like any other system, there has to be a balance. You can only drive oil up so much before it will reach a tipping point and there will be a correction. I'm quite sure the days of $1 gas are gone, and possibly even $2 gas, but it should go down once things smooth out. However, if there is any kink in the supply chain, such as a refinery going down, you will surely see a spike by the speculators which will still balance out in the end. I hope we learn from this and try to become more energy independent otherwise this will just keep happening.

Ultimately, I lay blame with the US government for not stepping in to protect the private property rights of the oil companies, whose assets were seized half a century ago by the nationalization of oil in the Arab countries. Instead of going to war, we handed billions in assets over to these ruling thugs and that is the leading reason why we are at the whim of our mortal enemies for our very sustenance.

Another cause of high prices is environmental laws. With such an arbitrary and capricious system of laws, it is no wonder that any oil company won't risk to invest in new refineries because over the ten years or so it takes to see an application for a construction permit to build a refinery, the political waters can turn around and billions spent on studies and engineering are instantly made worthless.

Then you have the environmentalists who don't want off-shore drilling. Or drilling in Alaska. So this is the result.

Don't blame Big Oil. Blame Big Government.

not CT but MA near NH

7:15a pump2 receipt $3.759@g
7:52a pump2 receipt $3.959@g
where I found last guys receipt...think he passed out near the pump after filling his Dodge 2500 Pickup.

So who changed the price on the pump while I was pulling up? Do they change the pump first, then the tag above the pump, then the sign I read abutting the st. road I was driving on????
