| Bell tried to charge me a $20 home phone cancellation charge
i got my "final" bill from bell today (actually a credit). I noticed it was A LOT less than i was expecting. Further examination showed they charged me $20.97 for HOME PHONE DEACTIVATION CHARGE.
i called to complain and got it re-credited.
i told them i was never advised of such a charge, and asked for proof that i was. she immediately stopped arguing and applied the credit.
just a heads up for those who switched in April! |

Imagine if Wal-Mart was bill your credit card for $20 when you threw away your toaster. I betcha that wouldn't fly. But Bell gets away with it. |

1 edit | reply to mr_hexen now you know why i started taping phopne cals with bell.
PROTECT YOUR SELF, get microphone and tape it.
and to the guy above BELL did try and bill a Credit card on an old account and whats even more shocking is that they tried to bill 209.00 and when the credited that back they billed me 80. quite a differance ( i have 15$ phone and sat service)
so they were trying to get away with 129$ in fees they were not owed.
be strong and firm. DEATH TO BEAVERS |

| reply to mr_hexen I just got my final Bell bill and noticed the deactivation charge. First thing I did was to search for the term in the forum and came across this thread.
The fluctuating numbers are very interesting. Do we know if this is legal and what is the best way to get the charge removed?
My previous bill had the service dated from April 13 - May 12. I asked Teksavvy to activate my phone service on the 12th. |

just call and complain that you were not advised of these charges at the time of cancelling. |

  hmmmm
@videotron.ca
| reply to darcmage From your bill it looks like you were in some contract.
So it may or may not be legit according to the terms in your contract.
I also recall reading on the CRTC web site that there is no deactivation fee. But what about contracts??
Not on contract is the LD charge they give you of 2.98.
Again if memory serves me correctly, there is no deactivation fee or required 30-day mandatory notice. Which is what this charge appears to be.
Maybe one of the TSI guys are brushed up of these deactivation fee's and will give you a PM.
I had no deactivation fee and no 30-day notice crap like what I see on your bill. Then again I had no contract... |

| I was told I wasn't under a contract by the rep when I signed up. I asked a second time after I requested her name and ID# and a third time after informing her that the call was being recorded (small fib).
I signed up with Bell under a instant $150 credit if I agreed to use their LD service. I agreed and continued to use Skype for all my LD calls. |

2 edits | Well your bill shows a "12 month promo" and a 30-day cancellation fee for LD.
Time for you to end this crap and get your money back.
1st step: kevin.crull@bell.ca (president of residential services). Send off an Email stating you were never on contract and per the CRTC web site there IS NO 30-day required notice that you are being billed almost 3$ for.
If that fails: Contact the CCTS who's mandate is to correct such wrongs.
The complaint process and filing procedure can be found at: »www.ccts-cprst.ca/en/
Its an easy procedure to file and costs you nothing. I recommend it.
BTW, a little birdie told me that those filing complaints with the CCTS are being actioned on by Bell before the CCTS makes a formal decision. Bell does this since all CCTS decsions are made viewable to the public.
A little birdie was told Bell is trying hard as hell to prevent the CCTS from posting customer complaints and their rulings.
so I think you have a 100% chance of having this cancelled if you complain to them. |

| You got a nice rep on the other hand and probably waived it without even mentioning it to you.
On the long distance features pages on bell.ca it says, "Note: 30 days advance notice is required to terminate long distance plans. For more details, see our Terms of services." and I can't remember ever not seeing that. |

| reply to mr_hexen re: Bell loves adding on charges it seems!
I can see I'm not alone in random bell charges.. I contacted them for a problem frequent disconnects.. They sent a tech to investigate , but in the meantime upgraded my account to the BIHS Utra HS .. started charging me 99$ (rather than the 69$ I'm supposed to be charged), AND a 60 $ activation charge for my new internet.. ..
They never mentioned anything about upgrading my account when I had called. I got an automated voice message saying my internet will be available on Friday, so I even called them to confirm they did not modify my account and they stated NO, it has not been touched. Just was said a tech was coming out.. and if deemed necessary they would install a dry loop....
I called and they reversed it all though. |
