Outlook Gmail IMAP

I'm visiting my parents who have Hughesnet. I use Outlook XP on my laptop and I have it configured to access my Gmail account via IMAP.

I travel all over the world with this laptop and always connect successfully to my Gmail account via Outlook...but I'm having all sorts of problems on this Wifi Hughesnet connection.

Does Hughesnet have some kind of special requirement I'm not aware of?

TIA.

Any chance the wireless router's firewall is blocking the gmail mail port?

I'm not sure how I'd make that determination. Outlook ends up "not responding" after attempting to connect and I have to either ctrl-alt-delete to get out of Outlook or reboot the system. It's done this more than half a dozen times.

What's strange is that it has retrieved a couple of my most recent emails but when I try to view any of the older email files in the Inbox, it says it can't connect to the server.

I can't speak to IMAP but I have been using a couple of GMAIL accounts with Outlook 2003 POP3/SMTP via Hughes net for well over a year without issue.

As indicate in sig block, using a DW7000.

I use Gmail via Hughesnet and received emails from 5 accounts both via browser and IMAP using Thunderbird.
I stopped using MS almost anything a long time ago
I set up IMAP on Gmail so I could access and reply to email on my cell phone
With IMAP on office PC I can download and archive some emails locally.
