rapidshare, yousendit, badongo...etc, throttled as well ?!

I was just trying to download some files from: RapidShare, YouSendIt, badongo & MediaFire....seemed that they are all throttled around 30 kB/s..

This is really insane !!!!!!

I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence or what....

Can anyone confirm this??

I have tried with a throttled connection and un-throttled one

Not the same line, but same profile, same ISP and same rapideshare server.

connection without mlppp: 28k/s
connection with mlppp: 602k/s

So This is not a coincidence

It seems like bell has expanded their throttling to include downloading sites as well. I just tested Rapidshare and got up to a whopping 19kb/s.

So much for Deadpool's line about http not being throttled. I wonder what his explanation will be for this one? I just can't wait for it this time.

No a problem here... "linux" download just fine.
Using MLPPP and running a BT at the mement.

Bell is hogging even more bandwidth to support its movie download service.

It's a total conflict of interest for Bell to be a carrier service, an ISP and a content provider!

im currently downloading from Badongo
11:39PM
95.4mb file
Speed: 528kb/s

You can't just blame Bell for bringing slow speeds...it's a friggin file sharing site, if you're getting free service, you expect something mediocre unless you pay them to get premium benefits.

Forgot to point out that was from rapidshare. I don't have any links for larger files.

Wow, I thought it was just an odd concidence. I was downloading a free legit piece of software and it was going at max 80kB/s and dropped to 30kB/s while my rogers friend had a nice 500-600kB/s

This also happened with rapidshare (though..the software in question was...)

I'll check to see if this happens again. I thought it was my internet being randomly slow (but I wasn't lagging, no one else was using up the connection) since it was over HTTP

478kb/s...?

I have been getting really spotty speeds downloading large files from linux repositories today - I'm setting up a new install, installing a bunch of software and doing updates, etc - download speeds have generally been under 100k, hovering around 30 a lot of the time... If Bell's messing with open source downloads, that's just absolutely indefensible...

Of course speeds could be down for a lot of reasons, but it's suspicious... Is there any way we can tell on our own if particular downloads are being throttled?

Let me guess. OP has a BT session or some encryption on funny ports (eg. SSL to IRC) opened and Bell throttle the entire line at 30kB/s.

I made a second test.

I downloaded: Wiley.Ubuntu.Linux.Bible.Jan.2007.pdf from rapideshare.com

The throttled and the mlppp connection run both at 500k/s

I found this strange as my first test was clearly at a steady 28-29k/s on the non mlppp connection (the throttled speed limit. Probably just a coincidence, don't know, I never use rapideshare service or anything similar.

truly, there is almost no way you can tell if Bell is throttling you on file sharing sites. Like I said on the previous post, speeds are always unstable on these sites unless you pay them for a premium account to get stable and fast speeds.
if you want to really know if Bell is throttling, get a premium account

I've been having exact same issue. Its not all the time, 1/4 tries will go about 200, but I was used to much higher.

If this is from bell throttling this will be at the shape speed 60k -> 30k -> 60 k

Anything faster isn't throttling. Just internet congestion of some sort.

I'm pretty sure this is the standard new skin from firefox 3 rc2

Yep that is the RC edition of Firefox 3, totally redisgned skin, and a couple of new features ... but somethings I don't like include how they changed up the download manager ... I can't clear list by a single button anymore, I have to do it through right-clicking the mouse for each file creates more clutter if you ask me. I like the address bar revamp, and the Bookmark management ... but the Forward and Backward icons are too cartoony and less useful in my opinion.
