CenturyTel DSL.. available in the boonies?

i see a lot of references that infer that CenturyTel can provide service to the boonies; i was under the impression that DSL was limited to within a few cable-miles of a switching station.

is this not true of CenturyTel's service?

Because we need something to replace Sprint Mobile Broadband (going to a 5GB/month cap) and nothing else seems to be available out here.

I'm not even sure CenturyTEl is, but i'd rather know the answers to my questions before i even bother to pick up the phone.

My name is Ed, I work for CenturyTel. I would be more then happy to tellyou if we provide service to you, if I knew where in the boonies you live?

They're a local telephone company. If they aren't the local phone provider in your area, you won't be able to get their DSL.

we're in Lapeer, Michigan.

i notice you have some customers nearby (looks like north of us); that is why i asked.

closest crossroads are Hadley and Merwin roads.

my main question was have you somehow managed to overcome the distance factor for DSL? Some of the people here have intimated that they live nowhere hear a switching station, which i'd always believed was neessary for DSL.

Remote terminals can be installed to expand the dsl "footprint". Most providers set the maximum line length to what they feel comfortable with, some push the limits more than others. Your best bet would be to call CT and ask. You will probably have an answer in less than 10 minutes.

actually, checking the website (the check coverage area link was not where i'd expected it to be) i'm showing that my neighbor about 5 doors down on Bullock road is eligible; it's literally maybe 800 feet away..
